FAQs

Are there multi-day discounts?

Multi-day boat rentals get cheaper and cheaper the longer you rent. We use the 8-hour rate as a daily rate and discount from there based on the total rental period. Rates are discounted even further in the early and late seasons (May-mid June and after Labor Day). Discounted pricing is already built into the booking software for rentals from 2-18 days. If you need a rental longer than 18 days please contact us for a custom quote.

How does overnight boat storage work on Lake Tahoe?

You will need access to at least one of the following: a mooring buoy, safe dock with a breakwater, or boat house, for overnight storage. Most waterfront homes on Lake Tahoe have a buoy at a minimum while many also have private docks and / or boat houses. Many lakeside neighborhoods also have HOA buoy fields and shared private docks.

What are the dock requirements for multi-day boat rentals on Lake Tahoe?

Docks are not required so long as you have a buoy and dinghy, but they make life much easier! Private docks need to be safe for the boat and the passengers. This means the water needs to be 4 ft or deeper and the dock needs to be be close enough to the surface of the water that passengers may safely climb in and out of the boat. Most docks on Tahoe are fixed height piers with an adjustable gangway that is moved up and down as the lake level changes. If the dock you have access to does not have an adjustable gangway and is more than 2 feet above the water, it is probably not a good option. If your dock is located behind a breakwater and can be safely tied off with fenders on both sides, then you do not need to use the mooring buoy in most instances.

Can we store the boat at the dock?

In most cases you cannot store the boat on the dock as most docks on Lake Tahoe do not have slips or breakwaters, and the boats can be easily destroyed by wind and wave action when side tied, even with appropriate fenders. The exception to this rule is if your dock does have a breakwater, which is usually a large stone jetty that protects the dock from wind and waves. These are fairly common on the east shore those properties regularly deal with prevailing afternoon winds, and virtually non-existent on the west shore.

Do I need a dinghy?

If you will be storing the boat on a mooring buoy when not in use it is recommended to have a dinghy, paddle board, or kayak to get to and from the boat. If you also have a dock, only one or two people will need to dinghy to the boat, and they can then bring the boat over to the dock for loading of the remaining passengers. If you do not have access to a dock, then a dinghy is highly recommended for shuttling your group to and from the boat. Many lake front homes include a dinghy, kayaks, or paddle boards. However, if they are not available we are happy to provide you with an inflatable dinghy to accompany your multi-day boat rental.

What time do multi-day boat rentals start and end?

Multi-day rentals start between 8-9 AM on the first day and end between 4-5 PM on the final day. If you have special requests outside these windows we will do our best to accommodate, please just let us know at the time of booking.

Is fuel included?

Fuel is paid by the customer as is required under the USCG bareboat charter regulations, but we will always provide the boat with a full-tank of fuel and we're happy to fuel it up for you at the end of the rental, but we do need enough fuel left in the tank to return to the fuel dock. We do not charge extra for this service, just the straight fuel price.

How do we fuel the boat on multi-day rentals?

All rental boats will be provided with a full tank of fuel on the first day. Should you need to fill up during your rental period, there are a variety of marinas around the lake that have fuel docks, and we are happy to recommend the closest and easiest options to your location. The one big exception is Lake Tahoe's North East and East shores around Incline Village and Sand Harbor, stretching from Crystal Bay all the way south to Zephyr Cove. The east shore is largely undeveloped, and there aren't any fuel docks available.

What if there's bad weather during our multi-day boat rental?

The beauty of a multi-day boat rental is that you have all day access and can go boating whenever the conditions are best. Lake Tahoe has notoriously amazing weather in the summer, with most days being sunny and warm, calm in the mornings, and predictable SE winds in the afternoon, then calm again from late afternoon to sunset. Occasionally, we will have thunderstorms or high wind events that make it unsafe for boating. Should this be the case on the first day of your multi-day rental we will postpone the start time and credit you accordingly for the missed day. However, unsafe boating conditions in the middle of a multi-day rental period are non-refundable as it's highly unlikely that you'll miss a full-day of boating due to weather conditions.

What do people say about Tahoe Waves Boat Rental?

Skip the excursions booked through your cruise ship and go with Ear Mountain. I had an amazing time halibut fishing with Ear Mountain Charters. They knew right where to put me onto nice fish and I got to see orca and sea otters while catching halibut. And these folks are the nicest people you will ever meet. I highly recommend them for fishing or whale watching in Hoonah/ Icy Straight

Caveat - I've never actually rented a boat from Tahoe Waves so this review is on their customer service. Bring a noob in researching different boat rental companies and overall boats in general, some sites looked fake and I really didn't know what type of boat was most friendly for our family vacation. I found Tahoe Waves website to be user friendly and answered most of my questions as a beginner renter. After I had a rental confirmation, I would still have lingering questions and their text service was real great to ask my inquiries. The responses were detailed and seemed to be an actual person on the other side of the text conversation and usually responded within an hour during their normal business hours. Due to a family emergency, we had to cancel our reservation, and was able to receive our money back minus booking fee (which was transparent at time of booking). Hoping to rent with Tahoe Waves at some time in the future!

These guys are absolutely awesome to work with. We had a few moving parts and changed our scheduled boat day a couple of times. Cooper and the team were very informative and very responsive each time we were figuring out what we wanted to do. Greatly recommend.

Cooper and crew are amazing and we will never rent anywhere else on the lake! They are consistently fair and accommodating when last minute changes come up and we love the relationship we've been able to build with them. They've been patient with my husband, Cameron, and father, Randy, and we couldn't recommend them enough. This is our 3rd consecutive year renting from them and it is 10/10 customer service every time.

We had a very "interesting" day on the lake yesterday. After going out in a pontoon in calm waters, we got stuck in a huge storm (40 mph winds and 4-5 foot waves). Those boats are NOT meant for those conditions and it got HAIRY. To the credit of Cooper, the owner, he drove out to Agate Bay to retrieve the boat, drove it back for us and then credited us half the price of the rental (we were out for about half our allotted time). Very, very fair business. Despite the adventure, I'd highly recommend this business. Boats are clean and in great condition. Just keep an eye on that afternoon Tahoe summer weather! I'll be back next time with a much closer eye on the weather!

We rented a boat from Tahoe Waves and about an hour into our ride, we were suddenly on what seemed like an episode of Wicked Tuna!! Water was so choppy, it had turned sporty real quick! We immediately turned around and headed back. These guys were waiting for us, brought us in safely, and graciously credited us for some unused time. Very kind and honest of them and have cemented our loyalty for our annual summer trips to Tahoe! Thank you, Tahoe Waves. Highly recommend.

My family of 12 rented a Pontoon boat from Tahoe Waves and from my first phone call with Cooper, we we're so happy to be renting from Tahoe Waves. They were waiting for us when we pulled up to board the boat and made sure we were all comfortable with operating the Pontoon. We had a wonderful day on the lake and the kids loved the tubing. The Pontoon was very comfortable and had a lot of room for 12 and had good power to pull a tube. They were waiting for us on the dock at the end of the day and pulled the boat in for us as we asked them to. We will be renting from Tahoe Waves again, we can't wait to go back.

We rented the Manitou Tritoon for the family this past week and Cooper and the whole crew at Tahoe Waves were so accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately, we had booked the boat on a day with pretty windy conditions and 5 mins into taking off, I received a call from Cooper. He could tell we weren't having a good time and offered to have us take the boat out the next day. Thankfully the lake was much calmer the following day and the kids all had a blast. We were lucky enough to ride on their brand new Tritoon for 2021 as well! The whole rental process was seamless and we will definitely be back to rent from them again. Thank you for the great customer service, Tahoe Waves!

As a local who will never afford a boat, I wanted to show my friends from out of town the best view of the lake- from a boat. We had previously booked with another agency and it fell through last minute. I called Cooper and he had a boat there in twenty minutes. The liability forms were straightforward and simple, and Greg, his employee couldn't have been more patient and cordial. I'll use these guys as long as I live here. Thanks again fellas! -Michael Murray from Old Town Tap in Truckee

We waited last minute to get a boat because of all the smoke, but Cooper came through for us. He was able to set us up and get us out on a boat in a hour after I called that morning. He made the process so easy and his priority was us having a good time. The price is all inclusive and a flat rate which I appreciated (gas and wakeboard). Will definitely be coming back next time I get a boat. Highly recommend giving him a call before any other boat shops!!

We rented from Tahoe Waves twice this summer. These guys were great, very easy to deal with, reasonably priced, and the boats were well maintained. Quick turnaround, thorough safety walkthrough, and then they had us out on the water in minutes. No shenanigans with hidden fees and surcharges - the price on the website is what you pay. Will definitely use again.

Had the best family day on Lake Tahoe thanks to Tahoe Waves. Originally, we rented the Pontoon boat for a full eight hour day on Thursday. We had a four hour ski boat rental lined up for Friday. Unfortunately, Thursday was a disaster with the wind and smoke making the lake unnavigable. I called Cooper a couple of hours in to the rental to let him know the situation. He was quick to solve the problem by letting us swap our reservations around. He even upgraded us to the bigger ski boat for free! Can’t thank Coop and his crew enough for the flexibility and customer service. Ultimately, these guys saved our vacation from Georgia to Tahoe. This picture pretty much says it all!P.S.- Spend the extra money to get the Cobalt! The boat is perfect for a 7-9 person family Dream day on the lake.

One of the best boat rental experiences we have had on Lake Tahoe. A one stop shop that didn't require us to refuel on return or pay for each add on. Nice clean power boat that easily got up our slalom skiers. Quick and simple check in process and transit to the pier. Plenty of clean and quality toys for power boating of all ages (our kids tubed, we skied). Highly recommend this company.

They are great people at Tahoe Waves! What these guys didn’t know is that I had a boat reservation elsewhere for Saturday. My family drove 6 hours to Tahoe for the weekend only to find out that the company I made a reservation with is no longer in business. So we didn’t have a boat on the busiest weekend in Tahoe. I spent Saturday desperately looking for a boat. We couldn’t go to the beach because it was packed with people everywhere with very few wearing masks, and my dad, who was with us, is immuno-compromised. Finally, I found Tahoe Waves. They had an available boat for Sunday and it was just the perfect size for my extended family of 10. We were there early for our appointment because we had already checked out. One of their guys got into an accident that morning, so they were short-handed. But they took care of us—got us in the water earlier than scheduled. We had a hard time parking by the boat launch, so they had us parked near their office which was just a short walk, The Bennington Pontoon Boat was very well kept, clean and comfortable at high speed. These guys worked fast. We got back earlier than scheduled but they came up to meet us at the dock on very short notice. Because we parked near their facility, we saw how they cleaned and disinfected the boat for the next customer. Overall good experience and I would rent from them again next time. Thank you to the crew at Tahoe Waves for saving us what would have been a wasteful weekend.

What a fantastic day on the lake thanks to the exceptional service, equipment and total experience delivered by Tahoe Waves. We have rented many times from many outfits on the lake, and Tahoe Waves ranks at the very top. From the ease of booking and completion of paperwork (all online), to the informative and timely communication of trip details, the thorough boat walkthrough and the ease of launch, this was a zero hassle total fun rental from start to finish. Big thanks to Hunter and Marcus for getting us set up with all the water toys we needed (included in the rental!), answering all of our questions and being there to bring us in at the end of they day -- they are the best! Look no further than Tahoe Waves for your next boating day in Tahoe ... you won't be disappointed!

We rented the Mastercraft wakesurf boat from Tahoe Waves. First, the boat was impeccable, both in appearance and operation. It felt more like we were doing a boat demo instead of a daily rental. The gear was also in fantastic shape (looked almost new). As good as the customer service is, it's the boat that makes the day, and Tahoe waves delivered to our expectations. Second, the team that helped us (we worked with three different people) were fantastic. We were given a full, unhurried, walkthrough of the boat and given ample opportunity to ask questions and get comfortable with it's operation. At the end of the day they were on the dock waiting for us with the same enthusiasm as the morning. Looking forward to our next chance to rent from these folks.

Our family rented a Pontoon from Tahoe Waves for 4 hours. We had a blast. Arrived at their location 15 minutes early as they stated. The guys greeted us right up front and showed us how to work the Pontoon. It was super clean and they they were very helpful. They also had their masks on the entire time we werer near them. Then we followed them to the dock which is a 1 min drive away. We loaded up and was off. The kids loved the inflatable. The 4 hours flew by and when we got back they were there to meet us at the dock. A few tips for Pontoons in Lake Tahoe 1) better to stay closer to shore as the waves are smaller and less splashing on board 2) bring some layers as it does get cold and wet out there, especially if you plan on getting into the water.

Cooper was awesome! We rented a brand new boat in June of 2019. The boat was awesome and cooper delivered it to our dock. He included tube, ropes, skis for a very reasonable price. We are renting with them again. Love Tahoe waves!

We had an amazing time on this boat! The boat was clean and all ready for us to use. The owners were great and very accommodating. We arrived in a motor home and they were waiting for us when we pulled up, and waved us down as we almost passed their place. An amazing fun day on the boat. We originally were going to book four hours but ended up going for the 6 hour rental. Highly recommend getting more time as the four hours would have been too short!

Hunter and Marcus made this very easy. We met where they store the boat which is a two minute drive to the boat launch. I have boated since I was 10. The boat was in great condition and easy to drive. They provided a tube, rope and device to blow it up. Our kids had a blast. Upon returning they were both there waiting for us. If you are looking to rent a boat I highly recommend Tahoe Waves. Thanks guys!

We had such a wonderful day on Lake Tahoe! Cooper was super helpful from my first call, answering my many questions, and he, Hunter and all the staff were great! We rented a pontoon boat and a speed boat for our party of 17 and they supplied the wakeboards and a tube (other rental companies charge extra), along with a cooler on each. The boats were immaculate and perfect for our needs. The guys gave us the scoop on safety and how to use each boat and recommended some places to go. It was a perfect day and we'll certainly be renting from Tahoe Waves again!

Searched for a few places before booking with Tahoe Waves Boat Rental for Father’s Day. The owner, Cooper, just sounded like good people, and the more I talked to him the more comfortable I was in securing a rental, and this was a phone conversation!I’m a former boat owner, but not a boat enthusiast. Cooper answered my questions, and then some. His rates were more than reasonable and his lake knowledge, to include average wind times (barring a Mother Nature twist) were helpful. He provided reminders the day before rental and the morning of. This was not just an auto message. We arrived and were greeted by Marcus and Forrest. Marcus was very knowledgeable about the boat and the lake as well. The safety walk thru was thorough, and he assured us that if there were any problems they could get to us on the lake. So, we rented their top of the line pontoon, and it did not disappoint! The boat was well kept, clean and fun! The wake board and 2 person tube were a wonderful bonus. We had such a great time!At the end of our rental time Marcus and Forrest were there to greet us. Again, both very personable just darn good people.I will say this... Tahoe Waves is my go to when I want to rent a boat out this way. I highly recommend them!

Rented the Mastercraft wake surf boat last week with my family, had the boat for 6 days and couldn't have been happier. Cooper dropped off and picked up the boat at our dock, got us all dialed in with an innertube, several wake surf and wake boards, and was responsive with any questions we had. Fair pricing, killer customer service/responsiveness and a new boat - 100% renting form Tahoe Waves next summer for our annual trip and would recommend them to anyone.

When you need a pontoon for nice time on the lake, this is where you go. Not only did they set us up with a nice boat, but they made sure we were all going to be safe on our outing on the lake. Special thanks to Cooper who showed how to use the boat and for suggesting all the great spots to go. We will definitely be using them again when we return!

My family and I rented the Suntracker DLX pontoon for a full 8 hour day of boating Lake Tahoe in June. The pontoon was perfect for 8 adults and 1 infant, had plenty of space, shade and speed to great around the lake quickly. Working with Tahoe Waves and Cooper was super easy. They were on time for everything and easy to communicate with. Would highly recommend renting from them as my family had a great experience and they offered one of the best pontoons I saw at the lowest price. Would also recommend adding the standup paddle boards to the rental. We boated down to Emerald Bay and spent the day paddle-boarding around the island. Highlight of the vacation!

We rented the pontoon boat for the afternoon and were delighted. Booking was easy and the communications were great. The logistics were easy and the instructions on usage were thorough with safety a premium. We rented a paddle board but did not use it because the water temp was too cold. They allowed us to take our small non shedding dog on board. While on the water the staff kept in communication with us and guided us to the landing dock. Well worth the money IMO

First off, my family has been boating in Tahoe since we were kids. A few years ago, we sold our boat since our busy lives kept us from using it. We started renting on Tahoe and had mixed experiences. We have paid too much and not gotten the boat promised in the picture with other rentals. Tahoe Waves was an amazing combination of value, service and communication!! It was so enjoyable, we raved about it for weeks. Cooper was very easy to communicate with. He met us ON TIME at our meeting spot and even had ice waiting for us. We reviewed some basic paperwork and drove to the ramp. He launched the boat singlehandedly, we loaded up and off we went. We rented a 24' pontoon that was a year or two old. It was immaculate. It had a 150hp outboard that pushed along very well and pulled a tuber with no problem. Our friends have a similar pontoon, but this particular model was SO much better. The sun pad on the back was well used by us!!! Tons of room for the 10 of us. We had an absolute blast and will definitely be using Tahoe Waves again!!!
